This talented Halloween-lover designs and makes her family's costumes every October, and they're always amazing and professional-looking. You can take advantage of Angelica's costume-making experience and use this idea to become the center of attention at your own Halloween bash!

Which witch is which?

Or in other words, WHERE is the person wearing this witch costume?

Where is the person inside the witch's dress?

At first glance, this green-faced crone appears to be staring directly at your face as she boils a disgusting severed head for her dinner.

But then, you look again---and notice that the position of the eyes in the cauldron keeps changing. The boiling head in the witch's cooking pot is alive!

You'll surely surprise your friends the first time they see you in this disguise. As you wear this costume, your OWN head will be bubbling inside the cauldron...looking quite severed and distressed! The witch's head is actually just a decoy to draw the crowd's attention. But, it's only a mask with red glaring eyes!

On the rest of this page, you'll discover how to make this fun costume that's sure to bring you plenty of admiring attention on Halloween night!

Original Homemade Witch & Cauldron Costume

by Angelica Amezcua

First, you'll want to gather the materials you'll need for making the witch's face and dress, plus the frame you'll need to hold it in place above you. Sewing ability is required if you make the witch's dress as I did. However, you may substitute a purchased witches dress (in an extra large size) if you can't sew.

List of Materials:

Two cardboard boxes

Tape and Glue Sticks

4 yards of black fabric (or purchased witch's dress)

Purchased witch's head & hat, hands and shoes

Plastic cauldron large enough for the wearer's head to fit into

Cooking Spoon and decorative spider

Face mask or makeup for the wearer's head inside the cauldron

Steps for making the witch's costume

1.) In advance of assembling the costume, sew an oversized witches dress using the pattern of your choice. Using a design with long sleeves and a floor-length hem is essential. As a substitute, find a similar-looking pre-made witch's dress.

2.) Making the frame: Combine the 2 cardboard boxes with sturdy tape to make a place inside to hide the wearer. The sizes of boxes you'll need will vary depending on whether you're making the witch costume for an adult or a child. Cut away spots in the box in the appropriate places for the wearer's head and hands to come out.

3.) Tape a PVC pipe to the top of the box to hold up the witches head. Drape the dress over the boxes, then put the witch's head into place securely. We had to reinforce the witches' head to stay in place as it kept tipping over at first.

4.) The Witch's arms and legs: Make two faux witch arms that fit the child's arms. Your child's own arms will look like the witch's arms holding the cauldron. Make or purchase witches shoes, which your child will wear.

5.) Cut out the plastic cauldron and place over the child's (or adult's) head to appear as if it's being cooked. Attach the cauldron to the witch's dress. Apply makeup to the child's face to give the "victim" a very anguished look. Decorate the cauldron with a cooking spoon...and a giant white spider.
